ANd so it happened that I crossed Panama half on the ground and half in the air to eventually arrive in Medellin / Colombia. Basti welcomed me with frshly prepared platanos and beer - that's the way I like it :)
Ehrlich gesagt wusste ich nicht viel ueber Meddelin und Kolumbien, ausser dass in den 80er und 90ern das Medellinkartell unter seinem "Chef" Pablo Escobar tonnenweise Kokain richtung USA und Europa geschmuggelt hat und die Stadt mit Gewaltexzessen, Morden, Bomben und Terror ueberzogen hat.
Es wurden zwei Touren zu dieser Thematik angeboten, eine unabhaengige und eine von Pablo Escobars Bruder...ja genau, seinem Bruder. Leider war der aber im Urlaub. so dass wir die normale Tour gemacht haben. Das hat sich als sehr gut herausgestellt. Man denkt jetzt dass die "Pablo Escobar Tour" diese ganze "hey yo ich mach millionen mit koks und knall jeden ab der mir im weg steht weil ichs kann - (wir haben alle Blow gesehen)" glorifiziert bzw. sich damit sehr unkritisch auseinendersetzt, aber weit gefehlt. Obwohl wir natuerlich einige Schauplaetze besucht haben hat unsere Fuehrerin kein gutes Haar an der ganzen Kokainsache gelassen, ueber die verlogene kolumbianische Gesellschaft gewettert, deren Scheinheiligkeit daran zu erkennen ist, dass Geld am Ende doch wichtiger ist wie Glaube, Gott oder was auch immer man behauptet und auch an "uns" als westlichen Konsumenten wurde mit Kritik nicht gespaart, da erst durch die ernorme Nachfrage von Kokain aus den westlichen Laendern die Lateinamerikanischen Produzenten in eine Spirale der Gewalt geraten (auch wenn Kolumbien mittlerweile von Ex-Praesident Uribe - wie auch immer weiss niemand so genau - befriedet wurde, muss man nur nach Mexiko schauen, wo die Kartelle durch das entstandene Machtvakuum in Kolumbien massiv an Praesenz und Einfluss gewonnen haben und Nordmexiko terrorisieren).
Pablo Escobar und sein Kartell haben so viel Geld verdient, dass sie dem Kolumbianischen Staat angeboten haben saemtliche Staatsschulden zu zahlen - und verlangten im Gegenzug Straffreiheit und die Legalisierung von Kokain. Somit habt ihr mal einen Massstab von welchen Dimensionen wir hier sprechen...
Honestly, I did not know much about the city of Meddelin and Colombia, except that in the 80s and 90s the Medellin-kartell under his "boss" Pablo Escobar smuggeled tons of cocaine to United States and Europe and as a result of the millions and millions of dollars flowing in the city hd to suffer excessive violence, murders, bombs and terror.
Two tours were offered on the subject, one independent and one of Pablo Escobar's brother ... yes exactly, his brother. As he was on holiday we did the normal tour which turned out to be a very good thing. One would think that the "Pablo Escobar tour" glorifies this whole "hey yo I do millions with coke and kill everyone who stands in my away because I can (We have all seen the movie Blow)" but luckily it did not. Although we did visit some important places for the whole drug thing our guide had nothing good to say about the whole cocaine/Pablo Escobar thing and the mendacious Colombian society railed whose hypocrisy is evident from the fact that money is in the end more important then faith, god or whatever... Also "we" as western drug users were part of her critic as the demand from western countries keeps the whole thing alive and still many people struggle as they're caught in the crossfire.
Pablo Escobar and his cartel made so much money that the offered the goverment to pay all the public dept - and in return demanded impunity and the legalisation of cocaine. Thus you get an idea of which amount of money we're talking about...
Das Wohnhaus von Pablo Escobar mit Hubschrauberlandeplatz und Tennisanlage - die ersten 4 Etagen waren Security. Das Gebaeude wurde mit einer Autobombe angegriffen. Escobars Antwort darauf war das Gebaeude von seinen eigenen Maennern mit Maschinengewehren beschiessen zu lassen, als Zeichen dass es ihm egal ist.

In diesem Haus hielt sich Pablo Escobar 1993 versteckt, ehe er bei der Flucht aus diesem auf dessen Dach erschossen wurde. Die Bilder sind im Internet zu finden. Man sagt er verkleidete sich als Nonne um das Haus verlassen zu koennen. Ein Zufall? Wer weiss...

Das Grab der schwazen Witwe die 2012 in Medellin beim Metzger erschossen wurde. Wer Cocaine Cowboys nicht gesehen hat sollte sich den Film anschauen, dass weiss man welch krasse Person da zwei Meter unter mir lag...oder den Artikel lesen:

Ich am Grab von Pablo Escobar. Auf dem Friedhof sind eigentlich nur schlichte Grabplatten wie die von Griselda Blanco gestattet - ausser natuerlich fuer den Doktor, der sich durch sein Robin-Hood-Image immernoch gewisser Beliebtheit in der Bevoelkerung erfreut, da er zum Beispiel Flutlichter fuer Fussballplaetze gabaut hat.
Me at Pablo Escobars grave. The cemetary only allown simple graves like the one of Griselda Blanco above - with one exception. The Doctor still is famous among some people as he bought e.g. some lighting for public soccerfields.
